Insecurity: Police, customs chiefs urge revival of religious values

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Bagega and his counterpart in the Nigeria Customs Services, Comptroller Ahmed Hussein has canvassed for the revival of religious and cultural values to reduce the rate of crime in Nigeria.

Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara state capital at a Ramadan lecture organized by an Ilorin-based private radio station, the security chiefs added that the rejuvenation of religious tenets, norms and culture would curtail anti-social behaviours amongst the youth which will further reduce crimes.

While admonishing the affluent to reach out to the needy, they submitted that poverty and absence of love are behind some of the security challenges facing the country.

Bagega said the spirit of kindness displayed by Muslims during Ramadan should be continued even after the end of the spiritual exercise.

Represented by Abdulrahman Tijani-Adekilekun, a police superintendent, the police boss called for sound moral education for the health of the society.

Comptroller Bello said: “This is the time to educate our people especially the youth to shun the habit of consuming illicit drugs and things that are against societal values in this holy month and always.”
