Insecurity: Group unveils project for orphans, destitute in Nasarawa

A group, Divine Women of Purpose Association (DWOPA), has begun the construction of a multi-million naira shelter to house and rehabilitate orphans, destitutes and abused women and girls.

During the foundation laying ceremony of the shelter in Papaladna community in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the Founder of DWOPA, Dr Ijeoma Chikezie, said the three housing units plan was initiated to serve as a home for counselling, skills training, rehabilitation and reintegration of destitute women and girls.

She said the essence was to help the traumatised women and girls regain their self-worth and value.

She explained that with the increasing cases of insecurity across the country, more measures needed to be taken to uplift those who thought they were forgotten.

She emphasised that the shelter was conceived as a transit home where women and girls would receive succour from trauma.

Mrs Chikezie stated that the programme tagged Hope Alive Home also known as House of Love was a dream child of DWOPA inspired by God for the purpose of uplifting the less privileged.

She added that the association would be working with employers of labour, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), banks and well-meaning Nigerians to make the vision sustainable and beneficial to the intended people; with a plan to build such centres across the country.

She solicited for support from people and corporate bodies to assist by providing equipment and necessary materials for the completion of the scheme.

The association’s grand patron and guest speaker, Dr John Kennedy Opara, commended the founder for her vision to impact positively on the less privileged, especially women.
