The remains of Hajiya Aisha, daughter of late Premier of Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardaunan Sakkwato, has been laid to rest on Thursday amidst tears by relatives and sympathizers.

Hajiya Aisha, who was fondly called Hajiya A’i, died last Friday in Dubai after a protracted illness at the age of 76.

She was buried at the Hubbaren Shehu after a funeral prayer led by Liman Akwara.

The prayer was attended by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan; Governors of Kano, Yobe and Sokoto states, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Maimala Buni and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal respectively.

Other dignitaries included Senator Aliyu Magatajarda Wamakko, former Governor of Zamfara state, Abdulazeez Yari and Aliko Dangote among others.

The prayer took place around 3:30 pm at the Masallacin Shehu.

She was the widow of the Chairman of the defunct Northern Nigeria Housing Corporation and one of the members, who represented Sokoto Province at the House of Representatives in the 1960s, Alhaji Ahmad Danbaba, Marafan Sokoto.

Late Hajiya A’i was said to have never held any position, whether elective or appointed and had all this while, lived a low profiled life.

She was the second of the three daughters of the late Premier.

One of the relatives of the deceased, Isa Maude, described her as a pillar of their family.

“We really lost a pillar. A great wall has fallen,” he said.

He noted: “Hajiya has been a supporting pillar to many people in our family.

“She used to bring children of her relations, especially those who are poor or living in the village to her residence and trained them.

“Some stayed with her until they get married and she must replace them with others. This is why her house was always full of children of her relations.

“She even had an empowerment programme for women and orphans,” he said.

He described her as pious, humble and philanthropist.

She was survived by five children and a younger sister who is the last daughter of the late Premier and wife of late Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi.

Among her children is Magajin Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Hassan Danbaba, and the wife of Shehu Malami, Sarkin Sudan.
