Afenifere not in support of secession – Adebanjo

The leader of the Pan-African Yoruba group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that the group does not support secession but wants restructuring.

He said the way President Muhammadu Buhari delayed restructuring of the country was giving impetus to the likes of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu to have more supporters.

According to him, “You will continue to encourage more people like Igboho, Kanu and others if the leaders refused or delay restructuring in this country.

“The greatest friend the president has in the country is Afenifere and those who are preaching restructuring.

“Don’t let anybody say we are fighting for secession, we are people that are calling for restructuring to consolidate Nigeria’s unity. To prevent secession, the president must restructure the country.”

He said the Afenifere does not demand that Fulanis should leave the South West but want the herdsmen who rape women, invade farms and kill people to go. He urged the president to ensure the arrest of the criminals among the herdsmen or anyone from any tribe that commits crime.

“We have fought for this country to be united for progress, not a section of the country to oppress us. We don’t want impunity to ride on horses in this country.”
