Yobe community decries deplorable condition of road

Residents of Jakusko Local Government have appealed to the state government for urgent intervention over their dilapidated township road.

A concerned member of the community, Abdullahi Sarki, who spoke with Kanem Trust, said the poor condition of the road was posing hardship on residents.

He disclosed that several houses were engulfed by flood almost every year due to lack of good roads and drainages.

“As the rainy season approaches, we cannot have peace of mind due to previous experiences where many of our neighbours lost their homes to flooding.

“It’s really affecting our economy because instead of concentrating on  farming during the season, we would be watching over our houses to avoid flooding. For how long this would continue?

“You can see that the dilapidated road has exposed some dangerous potholes making it difficult for motorists to ply, in fact, many people have resorted to trekking during the rainy season.’’

Another resident Musa Amshi, lamented that despite the local government’s position as the second-highest earner of federal allocation in the state, yet it cannot secure less than five-kilometre road.

Amshi said despite many road projects carried out by this administration, Jakusko Local Government is yet to have one.

“This has been our challenge. We have been battling with lack of government significant projects such as road and schools since the inception of democracy to date, we absolutely feel neglected.”

They appealed to Governor Buni to as matter of urgency fulfill his 2019 campaign promises of constructing Jakusko township road.

The Chairman of Jakusko Local Government, Abdullahi Hassan could not be reached for comment on the matter as he didn’t respond to a call put to him by our correspondent.

The community, however, said they have written severally to both local  and state governments but their complaint was yet to be addressed.
