Senate probes CCT chair over assault on security guard

The Senate Tuesday launched an investigation into the alleged assault of Clement Sagwak, a security guard, by the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.

This followed a petition by Senator Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Plateau) on behalf of the victim.

Umar was caught on camera physically assaulting Sargwak at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, on March 29. He was seen in the five-minute viral video clip slapping and kicking the security guard following an altercation that ensued between them over a parking space on the premises of the plaza.

Umar, had, however, claimed that the video captured only an aspect of the incident and left out the part where he was molested.

The victim, through his representative in the Senate, had alleged in his petition that he was assaulted by Umar and a policeman attached to him after he informed him (Umar) that his car was wrongly parked.

He said the CCT boss slapped him severally and forced him to kneel down in the presence of everybody while undergoing his lawful activities.

He therefore asked the Senate to ensure justice was done on his case.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan directed the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to probe the alleged assault and report back to the Senate within four weeks.
