A mother in Bayelsa got so infuriated after losing N1,500, she vented her anger on her 10-year-old—cutting the girl up with a razor blade and rubbing a mix of kerosene and pepper into the wounds.

She tied the girl up for the cutting process, then left her to bleed from her cuts until members of girl advocacy groups came upon the scene.
The groups, comprising the Do Foundation, Izon Ladies Association (ILA), and Gender Response Initiative Team, took the girl to hospital.
Her mother went on the run, but Bayelsa police spokesman SP Asinim Butswat confirm she has been taken into police custody while investigation goes on.
Narrating her ordeal, the girl said her mother began beating her after she denied stealing the N1,500.
Chairman of Collins Cocodia Foundation (CCF) Chief Collins Cocodia who visited the injured girl in hospital, called for a collective responsibility to protect children from domestic violence.
He pledged his foundation would foot the girl’s medical bills and ensure the girl is fostered with a responsible relative to receive proper care, better care and a change of environment.
