President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the attack on Kwapre community in the Hong Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State by Boko Haram insurgents.

President Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, on Sunday, expressed sympathy and condolences to the people who lost loved ones.

The SGF said more than 78 houses, 12 shops, schools and four worship centres were destroyed in the attack.

He explained that community members had a huge responsibility in securing the community, adding that it must be a collective effort.

β€œThe government will take measures that will be effective enough to reduce the threat as the government will help the community to rebuild the destroyed places,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Boko-Haram insurgents have released eight persons from the 52 kidnapped during the recent attack on Kwapre village.

The District Head of Garha, Simon Yakubu, disclosed this during the distribution of food items sent by the Secretary of the Government of the Federation at Garha district, a neighbouring village to Kwapre.

Yakubu said those released included six women and two children who had become so weak that they could no longer move with them.

He said the insurgents had reached out to them through the contact of one of the abducted villagers, adding that the number of people killed had reached 11 with the discovery of two more bodies in the bush.

According to him, the state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has responded through the speaker a few days back and given cash assistance of N3m which was shared with the families and household heads to enable them to cushion some challenges.

The district head said the SGF distributed relief materials to the 5000 displaced villagers.

Mustapha, who was represented by the District Head of Garha, a neighbouring village to Kwapre, Jauro Usman Hassan, said the relief materials consisted of food items, clothing materials and mats for the displaced people.

He reiterated that Kwapre village is very close to Sambisa forest, and urged the federal and state governments to establish a military base between Kwapre and Askira which is a vulnerable point that the insurgents followed to launch attacks.

Recall that Kwapre village was attacked last Friday by Boko Haram insurgents who killed seven people, abducted 64 and displaced 5000.
