Resettle us, IDPs beg Bauchi govt

Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by a series of ethno-religious crisis in Tafawa Balewa town, now scattered in neighbouring communities in the state, have begged the Bauchi State government to rehabilitate and resettle them in their ancestral homes

The victims made the plea during a one-day prayer and public lecture for sustainable peace and development to commemorate 30 years for displaced communities (IDPs) in Tafawa Balewa.

National Vice Chairman of Nigeria’s Council of Ulama, Sheikh Danazumi Musa Tafawa Balewa, in his keynote address, urged the state government to set up a task force committee comprising credible persons from each of the ethnic nationalities to kick-start the process of rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced persons.

Speaking also, chairman of Tafawa Balewa Youth Initiative for Progress, Musa Sani Musa Tafawa Balewa, said, “We have been waiting for years without any positive move to return home. We are appealing to federal and state governments to revisit the plight of displaced residents of Tafawa Balewa because neglecting their issue is also compounding our challenges.”
