Poultry farmers have lost over N600 million as the Kano wing of Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria (PAN) confirmed an outbreak of Avian influenza, also known as bird flu in the state.
Confirming the outbreak, the state PAN chairman, Alhaji Umar Usman Kibiya, revealed that two months ago farmers officially reported the case to the authorities when they noticed some element of the flu.
He said 42 farms had been affected so far, adding that 40 samples were submitted for testing. He further said officials succeeded in depopulating 223, 695 birds in the affected farms across the affected areas.
“The frontline officers have been provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to enable them to execute their duties effectively,” he said.
