Police probe murder of woman by hoodlums in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command said justice would be done to the case of a mother of three who was stabbed to death Saturday morning at Oduntan area of Ketu.

Some hoodlums had stabbed Oluwakemi Odugbesan, 41, while reportedly trying to rob her of her phone and handbag.

Daily Trust reports that Ketu area in Lagos is notorious for such attacks by hoodlums who lurk around communities along the Ikorodu Road to terrorize residents and passers-by.

The victim, it was learnt, was attacked while returning home from a vigil around 6am.

The incident occurred a few meters away from Oduntan Gate where she lived.

A witness told our correspondent that the woman was slaughtered in pieces and people had to use a wheelbarrow to convey her dismembered body to the hospital.

It was learnt that she died before being rushed to Azir Hospital along the Oduntan Street.

The victim, said to be the first of her parent’s five children, was stabbed on the day of her husband’s birthday.

It was further learnt that the couple had planned to relocate to Canada next week.

Another eyewitness said the victim’s mother collapsed when she heard about the murder of her daughter and was still being stabilized in the hospital as of the time of filing this report.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed the Homicide Department of the command to take over the investigation from the Ketu Police Station.

He said while no arrest had been made yet; the police would bring the perpetrators to book.

He said, “We have no arrest yet, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the matter be taken to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department,Panti, Yaba for proper investigation.

“So we are on the matter as we are optimistic to do justice to the case.”
