Kogi Poly student nabbed with pistol on campus

Shehu Tanimu Mohammed, a National Diploma (ND) II student of the Department of Public Administration at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has been arrested with a locally fabricated revolver pistol and five rounds of ammunition on the school campus.

While parading the student with matriculation number 2018/ND/PAD/170, the chief security officer of the school said the student was arrested on Friday morning.

He said the arrest was made possible by the strong security network put in place to halt any attempt to breach the ban on end-of-examination celebration.

According to him, the locally made revolver pistol and five live ammunition were found inside the student bag.

The chief security officer said Mohammed was coming to the campus purportedly to write his ND II final examination when he was arrested.

He also recalled how security operatives of the institution had on Thursday, impounded a tricycle, (Keke NAPEP), which he said was intended as a decoy for hiding and releasing gun shots outside the school gate.

He said the student will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for further interrogation and investigation.

The spokesperson of the Kogi state police command, ASP Williams Ayah, was neither picked calls nor replied to a text message sent to him for reaction over the arrest of the student.
