Alumni raises N178m for GGC Dala, renovate classrooms

The Dala Old Girls Alumni Association (DOGAA) has raised N178 million donations for the school and renovated 47 classrooms and 10 toilets.

Kano/Jigawa Chronicle reports that a philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, made the highest donation of N100 million.

Speaking at the 60th anniversary of the school, the DOGAA National President, Hajiya Saudatu Sani, said the association introduced a programme through which it donated 1,000 chairs to the school.

“We have so far renovated 47 classes and 10 toilets apart from five water boreholes,” she said.

In his speech, the guest speaker, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, called on government to provide schools in the state with Islamic studies’ teachers as the subject is facing serious challenge of understaffing.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by the Commissioner of Education, Sanusi Said Kiru, said the government had partnered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to renovate 300 schools in the state.

In his speech, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, commended the GGC Dala alumni for over what they have done for the school. He urged them to continue and support the less privileged students in the society to get a sound education.

In his goodwill message, the senator representing Kano Central, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, called on the students to read hard and emulate their elders.
