FG pays N2.3bn death benefits in 4 years

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, yesterday said in the last four years, N2.3bn out of N2.5bn released as death benefits had been paid to the next-of-kin of deceased officers.

She said the balance would be paid to other beneficiaries as soon as her office received the requisite attestation from the banks.

She spoke in Abuja during the oversight visit of members of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service to her office.

She told the lawmakers that the government has launched a national policy on virtual engagement in federal public institutions.

She said that the policy was geared towards institutionalizing standards in Ministries Department and Agencies, using virtual engagement as an administrative procedure.

According to her, the policy is in line with the Nigeria e-governance master plan approved by the Federal Executive Council on 14 October 2020 to ensure that work continued unhindered and to evolve a digitalized public service.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, urged that civil servants should be engaged in continuous training as the nation “stands to benefit from their knowledge and wealth of experience.”
