A former Director of News with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Selegbegha Eradiri, has been described as an unsung hero who discharged her duty passionately as a reporter.
Eradiri, who died in 2012 following a protracted illness, was honoured by family and friends with a posthumous 66th birthday by staff of NTA, Channel 5 Lagos.
The chairman of the event and Group President/Chief Executive Officer of Century Energy Group, Ken Etete, said Sele Eradiri was an unsung hero who rose to an enviable position in the media industry before demise.
He stated that whenever she was reporting on NTA, it gave him a sense of pride as a Bayelsan and pleasant memories saying he was glad she has been immortalised through the Sele Eradiri foundation.
He pledged his support in the advancement of her ideals as “the Ijaws were in dire need of representation in positions where their voices will be heard.”
In his remarks, a representative of the family and the Sele Eradiri foundation, Ebiekure Eradiri, thanked the management and staff of NTA for the honour and expressed excitement on how she raised a new generation of media personalities who are doing great in NTA and beyond.
He noted through her activism, she fought against injustice, pushed for gender equality before it became a popular topic for discussion and promoted a safe environment through her journey in the journalism profession.
“The purpose of The Sele Eradiri foundation is to promote the ideals she lived for and I commend the Nigerian Television Authority for preserving and releasing her works which revolved around cancer awareness, girl child education, HIV/AIDS and environment to the foundation.”
