24-year-old not qualified to be a commissioner, Samson Itodo tells Kwara Governor

Hours after Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, announced the nomination of Kaosarah Adeyi, a 24-year-old University of Ilorin Graduate as a Commissioner, one of the proponents of the #NotTooYoungToRun law, Samson Itodo, faulted the nomination.

Citing Section 106 of the 1999 amended constitution, Itodo said the criteria for being appointed a Commissioner of any state in Nigeria is 25 years.

President Muhammadu Buhari in April, 2018 signed the #NotTooYoungToRun bill into  law.

The amended law reduced the age qualification for president from 40 to 30; governor from 35 to 30; senator from 35 to 30; House of Representatives membership from 30 to 25 and State House of Assembly membership from 30 to 25.

Governor Abdulrasaq had in 2019 appointed the then 26-year-old, Miss Joanna Nnazua Kolo as Commissioner.

The appointment made her the youngest commissioner in the world.

It is unclear whether the State Assembly will clear Adeyi when she appears for screening on Thursday.

She was nominated alongside seven others.
