Residents ‘bathe’ man with acid for stealing purse

The Kwara State Police Command is in custody of one Yusuf Isiak, who was allegedly bathed with acid by members of the community for stealing a purse belonging to one Oladele Ruth of Iyana Olodo, Airport area, Ilorin.

The police first information report revealed that the accused, with his accomplice, Rasaq Sikiru, were about to be set ablaze by the angry mob when police officers from Adewole station came to their rescue.

The prosecutor, Innocent Owoola, informed the court that Sikiru could not be arraigned because he is currently receiving treatment in a police clinic.

He urged the court to remand Isiak on the basis that his alleged offences are not bailable and the issue of theft must be handled with all seriousness.

Isiak’s counsel, Sulaiman, prayed the court to discountenance the submission of the prosecutor, saying his client needs serious medical attention to fully recover from the wounds he suffered from members of the community.

Magistrate H.D Muhammed, however, admitted Isiak to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties, while the matter was adjourned to March 24.
