2,900 Benue rural women get FG’s N20, 000 grant

At least 2,900 women drawn from all 23 local government areas of Benue State on Saturday benefitted N20, 000 each as part of the federal government grant for rural women.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster and social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, while flagging off the symbolic disbursement of the cash at the IBB Square in Makurdi, said that the grant for Rural Women programme which was introduced in 2020 is to sustain the social inclusion agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“It is consistent with the president’s now national vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years. It is designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in rural and peri-urban areas of the country.

“A cash grant of N20, 000.00 will be disbursed to about 125,000 poor women across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Our target in Benue State is to disburse the grant to about 2,900 beneficiaries across all local government councils,” the minister said.

The minister, who was represented by her Permanent Secretary, Bashir Nura Alkali, noted that the grant would be expected to increase income and productive assets of target beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, a beneficiary, Dooshima Tyobo, said the N20, 000 grant she received in addition to her small savings would enable her to start a clothing business in order to expand her tailoring ventures in Gwer West area of the state.
