Insecurity: South-West leaders meet in Ibadan

Prominent Yoruba leaders are billed to converge on Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to deliberate on the state of security in the country and the region in particular.

The meeting, being organised under the auspices of the Pan Yoruba Congress, is coming at a time the region has experienced ethnic clashes.

Recently, Yoruba and Hausa residents clashed in the Shasa part of Ibadan, during which people died, while the market was completely razed.

It was learnt that during the meeting, the leaders would explore avenues to douse tension and restore peace in the region.

The chairman of the organising committee, Ogbeni Sola Lawal, revealed that the gathering, slated for Mapo Hall next Wednesday, would be non-partisan.

He said it would be attended by traditional, political, religious and business leaders, among others.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), yesterday advised the federal government to kick-start a national healing process through a comprehensive pacification exercise.

Among other steps, the group suggested that the federal government should rehabilitate the houses of Sunday Igboho and that of the Seriki Fulani that were attacked, compensate farmers, both in the North and South, pacify cow owners and assist them to buy land for ranches.
