FG unveils central platform for N-Power, others

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has unveiled the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS) to coordinate the N-Power Batch C scheme and other Social Intervention Programmes (SIPs).

At the event to unveil NASIMS in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the N-Power programme will now be administered through the NASIMS which cuts across the value chain of other programmes under the ministry.

The Federal Government under the present administration has impacted about 500,000 people spread across the 774 LGAs manning classrooms in public schools, acting as extension workers in primary health centres, and others acting as agriculture extension advisors to farmers.

“The N-Power programme provides young Nigerians with job opportunities and due to its impact, President Buhari approved the extension of the programme to one million new beneficiaries with 500,000 per stream,” the minister said.

Farouq also stated that the Batch C of N-Power is a continuation of the ongoing strategy and an extension of the Buhari administration’s commitment to job creation and youth development.

Based on the implementation of these SIPs since 2016, the programmes are undergoing restructuring to maximize their impact and deliver more socioeconomic benefits to the poor and vulnerable in the society, she noted.

Beneficiaries can log into the system to take their test and subsequently carry out the process. The new platform also caters to complaints arising during the registration process.

The Permanent Secretary, Bashiru Alkali, at the event described NASIMS as a strategic response to address numerous challenges encountered in SIPs.

“It will drive efficiency and accountability and serve as a database for the programmes,” he noted.
