26 jailed for COVID-19 violations, nuisance

A mobile court in Benin, yesterday sentenced 26 persons to hours of community service for not wearing facemasks and displaying wares in unauthorised places.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Rusberth Imafidon, ordered that the punishment be carried out for two days consecutively.

Twenty-one of the convicts were sentenced for violating COVID-19 protocol while five others were sentenced for trading in unauthorised areas.
