APC using PVCs to ‘hoodwink’ Zangon Kataf residents for registration – PDP

Stakeholders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State have accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of going from house to house to obtain permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) from residents to ‘hoodwink’ them into registering with the party.

A communique issued at the end of the PDP’s stakeholders meeting in Zangon Kataf and signed by the stakeholders chairman, Dr John Ayuba, and secretary, Hon Yusuf Kantiok, stated that it received disturbing reports on the ongoing APC membership revalidation and registration exercise, adding that APC officials in the LGA were in a show of “desperation trying to hoodwink innocent people to register in their party.”

“We are disturbed that in that process, they obtain permanent voter’s cards of people on the grounds that they will be given financial and material gifts by the APC government. We urge our supporters and the general public to resist this ploy,” the communique stated.

The stakeholders said though the PDP was ready to participate in the forthcoming local government elections, it demanded for the strict adherence to the relevant laws in all the processes and conduct of the elections.

The stakeholders urged the party at the state level to also challenge sections of a bill allegedly passed by the House of Assembly which gave the governor the powers to constitute a caretaker committee in any LGA where there is crisis.

Acting Publicity Secretary of APC in Kaduna, Salisu Tanko Wosono, when contacted, denied the allegations of the PDP. “We are not surprised to hear such allegations from PDP because their members are used to such corrupt practices and so they think any other person will behave like them.”

Hajiya Hauwa Tanko says she hopes to meet with her lookalike – the Kaduna deputy governor, someday.
