The President/Founder of Aspire Women Forum, Barrister Zainab Marwa-Abubakar, has said it is possible for a woman to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

She said this on Sunday at a women stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja. The programme was part of activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day.

“As 2023 draws near, I believe that women are going to take their rightful, place as leaders, policy makers and decision makers in this power play. Right now, we have not come together quite yet to choose a woman that would succeed His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari. But, why not? Anything can happen, anything is possible, but with time to come,” she said while responding to a question on the possibility of a woman emerging President in the 2023 elections.

“You (women) must educate yourself, especially for the fact that all politics are local. So, you must go to your locality, align yourself with a political party, my political, party, APC is right now, having its registration and revaluation sessions around Nigeria. So, you have to actually go and register with a political party and then begin to plan, learn and act.”

Mrs. Zainab, who is a daughter of a former Lagos and Borno states Military Administrator and current Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd), also said the issue of drug abuse can be addressed using political messages on the ills of drug abuse in the nation’s political landscape.

On her part, the National Coordinator, Aspire Young Women Forum, Gift Johnbull, said that nation building is a collective effort and young people are actually key ingredients in nation building, thus the need for young people to get involved in politics.

She said, “But then, the young population is plagued by a terrible vice of drug abuse. We believe that 15 million persons, actually young women and youths are plagued with this terrible vice. People actually indulge in drug abuse thinking it is an escape from reality. But it leaves the person in a very terrible mess, most times worse than the case they were before they get involved in the drug abuse.

“We stand with Gen. Buba Marwa to say No to drug abuse. To the youths, No to drug abuse. Face reality head on and deal with it and again say no to drug abuse.”

She said women should believe in themselves and know that they are important ingredients in nation building.
