Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has said the present economic hardship is behind the delay in payment of ad hoc staff engaged for the recent local government elections in the state.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka, disclosed this on Thursday in a radio programme ‘Barka Da Hantsi’ on Freedom Radio Kano.

He said the commission is worried by the delay in the payments but that they have started paying some of the staff and will soon address all the problems.
When asked about his comment before the election that the state government had provided all the money needed for the conduct of the election, the chairman denied that, saying they only got approval but not release of the whole funds.
Recall that the state government, through KANSIEC, conducted the local government elections on January 16 this year across the 44 local governments of the state.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all the 44 LG chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats in the election.
But since then the ad hoc staff that worked with the commission during the election have been complaining that they were yet to receive their pay for the work.
