Jigawa PDP expels former guber candidate

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has expelled its governorship candidate in the 2015 and 2019 general elections, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, over alleged anti-party activities.

Ringim contested against APC’s gubernatorial candidate, now governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar, in 2015 and 2019 but lost.

The state chairman of the party, Babandi Gumel, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse, yesterday, said the decision followed the failure of Ringim to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee to defend himself over allegations of anti-party activities and sabotage levied against him by his ward party executives who had earlier suspended him from the party for a month.

The chairman added that letters of invitation sent to him on two consecutive occasions were not honoured as he failed to appear before the committee.

He said the state executive committee has written to the former governorship candidate not to parade himself as a member of the party.

Contacted, Ringim said the committee lacked the power to expel him from the party. He said the executives were illegally constituted hence they lacked the power to invite or take action against any member of the party.
