At least 20 aspirants have indicated interest to stand for governor on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in Anambra governorship election this year.
One aspirant, Obiora Okonkwo, chairman of Dome Entertainment Centre, addressed executives of the part in Awka as he officially declared his intention to stand for governor.

He said the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance lacked ideas to create wealth to develop the state.
According to him, the present government under APGA, only depends on federal allocation to run the state because those in government do not have ideas on how how to create wealth to develop the state.
He said that he is in the race to lift Anambra to greater heights so that people will begin to live in a society that is secured.
He regretted that Awka as a state capital still looked like a glorified local government headquarters after 30 years of creation of Anambra state, tracing that to poor leadership.
Okonkwo who also is chairman of United Nigeria Airline said he is capable of winning the election for the party, comes November 6.
According to him, the earliest way for the party to win the election in the state was to
“I am very qualified, very ready, and very confident of winning the election for PDP, and that is what PDP needs now,” he said.
“We are waiting for who other parties will bring because we know that whoever they bring, we will defeat them roundly.
While responding, the chairman of the party in the state, Ndubuisi Nwobu, commended Okonkwo for his numerous contributions to ensure that the party ran smoothly over the years.
