Commission trains 120 agents to tackle farmer – pastoralist conflicts

The National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) has commenced training of 120 extension agents on how best to check farmer-pastoralist conflicts, restiveness and rural banditry in the country.

Speaking at the opening session of the training in Kano, the Executive Secretary of NCNE, Professor Bashir Usman, said the commission had identified that skills acquisition and sustainable livelihoods are some of the best ways to address these challenges.

He said efforts should be made to ensure that all out-of-school nomadic children, estimated to be around 3.5m, are enrolled in schools.

In his remarks, the chairman of the NCNE board, Professor Gidado Tahir, said the training would provide practical and relevant approaches that would provide useful insights on how best to be able to step down lessons learnt to various nomadic communities.
