A former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has said his contest for the national chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be determined by the party’s zoning arrangement.
Sheriff disclosed this to journalists Saturday in Damaturu, capital of Yobe state, while responding to speculations on his involvement in the forthcoming convention of the ruling party.
According to him, the national leadership of the party is yet to state its position on zoning, saying “Whether I will run for the office or not will be determined by what the caretaker committee takes as a decision where the leadership of the party would go; either in our zone or the other zone.”
He confirmed that he will run for the office if the Buni-led caretaker committee zones the leadership of the party to the North East region.
“If it goes to another zone, I will not contest; if it comes to our zone, yes I will contest,” he added.
Daily Trust on Sunday reports that Sheriff, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is among the six former governors jostling for the APC national chairmanship seat.
