KEDC petitions Kaduna CP over assault on staff

The management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has petitioned the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri, to commence urgent investigation into the attempted murder of one of its staff in Danbushiya community, Millenium City in Kaduna State.

A petition written by the management of the disco stated that an armed group from the community had on Monday, February 22, 2021 launched an offensive assault on the company staff while conducting their lawful duties.

According to the petition, the assault led to injuries sustained by the company’s Doka Area Manager, Engr. Asmau Ahmed, and urged the CP to fish out all perpetrators involved in the attack and charge them to court.

The management of the company also asked the police command for adequate protection and to guarantee the safety of its staff while carrying out their duties without hindrances.

The disco justified that it was against this backdrop of the attack that it was compelled to temporarily withdraw electricity services to the three distribution transformers serving Danbushiya, Danbushiya 1 and Danbushiya 3 communities.

When contacted, Kaduna State Police command through the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said he was yet to see the petition but confirmed that the incident had happened and that police men had rescued the staff of the distribution company. ASP Jalige assured that the DPO in charge of the area has been mandated to investigate the matter in order to arrest the perpetrators.

Our correspondent who reached out to the Mai Unguwa of Danbushiya gathered that the entire community has been disconnected from electricity services. The Mai Unguwa, Ismail Jibrin who described the incident as unfortunate told Daily Trust Saturday that he was not in the community when the incident happened but urged the distribution company not to use the offence of a few to punish the entire community.
