Fatima Haruna Ungogo
It has been more than 100 days since you departed this world but the pain is still there, as if it were yesterday.
A man of honour and integrity, respected by all. A role model and an icon to many, a man considered by many as one of the most respected individuals. The most honest politician I’ve ever met, who is afraid of Haram.

You served your country for more than fifty years with no history or record of corruption. A peace lover who would apologise to you, even if you were the one who offended him. A very patient man.
He was always interested in the country; he did a lot of things for his land, and taught us that it is not enough to be well with just yourself. One can only feel better when the rest are also well.
Your kind words and prayers for others are well known. If you ever met my father, he must have told you “Allah maki/ka albarka” meaning may Allah bless you. May Allah SWT multiply it to you, Amin.
Baba was an incredible person. He was not only the best role model, but he volunteered free services in his spare time. When he retired, before he was appointed as an ambassador, he used to lecture voluntarily at the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education Kano, where he taught Mathematics.
He fed so many homes, paid multiple tuition fees, paid countless hospital bills. His earnings always have a share for the less privileged. When he was an ambassador, he visits every office in the embassy to make sure everyone is doing fine. He wasn’t okay with only being a wonderful father, he also wanted to give back to the world and help those in need.
A very honest and intelligent man, he was also full of jokes but stresses the importance of education, hard work and obedience to parents. Even on his sick bed, he kept instructing us to obey our mother as he said “she is a true servant of Allah” not knowing it was a farewell Nasiha. To know you is to love you!
You were an amazing Dad, a great family man and a wonderful support system. You have left a gap in our life that no one can fill it. You were a true leader, one of the humblest persons ever. I have always been proud of talking about my father. Just saying his name pleases me and makes me feel fortunate, not only because I am his daughter, but also because we shared so many moments – both sad and happy.
My heart bleeds each time I remember that you are gone but your loving and caring fatherly role will continue to linger in my humble heart. You were the most hardworking man I ever know – a very punctual person, who has respect for time.
My father was a conservative man, but he understood us and gave us freedom. I feel so grateful to have had as much time with my father as I did. I miss him so much already and I will forever remember having the most incredible dad.
I don’t know how long it will take me to grieve this tremendous loss. My father was the most important person in my life and I feel heartbroken to no longer have him here with us. His memory will forever linger on. We are proud to be your kids!
I love you with all my heart and miss you more and more each passing day. It hurts so much that I feel I cannot breathe at times. Your last sentence to me was “Allah ya miki Albarka”.
I pray that barakah follows me and my siblings, and I pray that Allah is with you and May Allah grant you the highest paradise. May Allah make you one of the men of Jannah, may your resting ground be spacious and peaceful, Amin Ya Allah. Till we meet in Jannah In Sha Allah.
