UNICEF seeks unconditional release of Kagara students

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has condemned attacks on schools and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of kidnapped students of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.

A statement signed by the representative of UNICEF in Nigeria, Peter Hawkins and made available to newsmen in Bauchi noted, “The UNICEF is deeply concerned about these reported acts of violence. Attacks on schools are a violation of children’s rights. Children should feel safe at home and school at all times, and parents should not need to worry for the safety of their children when they send them off to school.’’

The statement further noted that the organisation was aware of reports that many students were unaccounted.
