Kaduna-based Islamic Scholar Sheik Ahmad Gumi has recommended that the government should grant a blanket amnesty to bandits.
He disclosed that there was a positive response from the bandits that have been terrorizing Niger State and its environs.
Gumi gave the recommendation while speaking with journalists at the Niger State Government House Minna after a closed-door meeting with Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
“I am here to continue my mission to see that we have absolute peace in Nigeria and try to listen to the bandits’ grievances then see how we can stop this mayhem and carnage that is happening in the country,” he said.
On the outcome of his meeting with the bandits, he said, “the outcome was very positive because we have warring factions. Each faction is saying that they have their own complaints and grievances which are very simple. There is hope that we can resolve this.”
“I want to recommend that the government should do to them exactly what they did to the Niger Delta militants and give them a blanket amnesty. Then if anybody will continue, we will deal with him.”
