Akwa Ibom: Police vow to prosecute perpetrators of jungle justice

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has said perpetrators of mob justice in the state will be prosecuted.

The Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew, described the act as “travesty of justice”, saying the new trend where suspected criminals were punished by mobs would not be tolerated.

In a press release signed by the spokesman of the police in the state, SP Odiko Macdon, and made available to newsmen on Thursday, the CP said mob action did not guarantee fairness as it might lead to the death of innocent persons, explaining that mob action was against the provisions of the constitution and the nation’s criminal justice system.
