Customs seizes N74.3m contraband in Kaduna zone

The Federal Operations Units (zone B) of Nigeria Customs Service ‎has seized smuggled goods worth N74.3 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV).

The Comptroller, Albashir Hamisu who made the disclosure at the zonal headquarters in Kaduna displayed some of the seized items yesterday, which he said were seized between February 7 and 15, 2021.

He listed some of the seizure to include 635 bags of 50kg of foreign rice, 344 cartons of spaghetti, 31 jerry cans 25 litres of vegetable oil, 12 jerry cans 10- litres vegetable oil, 13 bags of 50kg sugar, 8 jerry cans of 5 litres of vegetable oil, 13 vehicles, among others.

“The duty paid value of these items is N74, 338,500 million and we made these seizures from 7-15 February 2021. There are more seizures deposited in various customs locations within the zone i.e Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger, Kwara,  Kogi, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, which couldn’t be brought down to the FOU Kaduna headquarters due to distance and logistics,” he said.

The officer also said the smugglers are getting clever by using smaller vehicles to smuggle rice into the country but that customs is ever ready to stop them from achieving their evil deeds.

‎He further offered advice to smugglers to desist from smuggling and embrace legitimate businesses in the country.
