I bought guns from open market — Suspect

A 25-year-old, Ibrahim Bulus, arrested for being in possession of three locally made guns, said he bought the guns after seeing them on display on a market day in Darin Daji village of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Bulus, who claimed ignorance of the law prohibiting owning a gun without license, said, “The guns are in display in Darin Daji market. By seeing them freely sold in the market, I went for them like any other interested buyer. I bought three guns,” emphasising that, “The locally made guns are always on display in the market.”

On what he bought the guns for, Bulus said he was contracted by two people to supply them.

Kebbi State police spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar, said the police arrested the suspect while on routine patrol along Malando/Garin-Baka Road in Sakaba LGA after he could not give satisfactory explanation on how he came about the guns, and that in the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to have been awarded a contract for the supply of the guns.

DSP Abubakar said the confession of the suspect led to the arrest of one Ayuba Bulus and one Usman Musa who he said gave him the contract to supply the guns.

On the alleged claim that guns are sold freely in Dari-Daji, Abubakar said the police would investigate the claim and if it turned out to be true, all involved would be brought to book.
