Traders get exco in Kano

A 25-member executive council of the Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN), Kano chapter, has been inaugurated with a call on them to be steadfast in turning around the fortunes of its members.

Speaking at the inauguration, the national president of the association, Jamil Abbas, said the association was repositioned to chart a new course for businessmen to achieve their potentials.

He said that could be achieved through collaboration with relevant stakeholders, like the government, especially in the areas of provision of electricity.

“If the Northern governors can establish power plants, it will contribute a lot in improving business and commercial activities in their respective states and the country in general,” he said.

In his remarks, the newly inaugurated chairman, Abba Aminu-Imam, promised to do all things possible to alleviate the suffering and challenges of businessmen in the state by carrying everybody along, adding “we shall decentralise our activities to all the 44 local government areas of the state.”

He called on the federal government to provide more intervention funds to revive the moribund and ailing industries in Kano, stressing his commitment to solving the problems bedevilling commercial activities in the state.
