Sokoto correspondents’ chapel boycotts gov’t activities over harassment of members

Members of the Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto state council have resolved to boycott all government activities over alleged harassment by security agents at the government house on Friday.

The chapel also barred its members from using press statements issued by the state government, political parties and individual politicians who did not deem it fit to invite them for their function.

The decision was taken at its extra ordinary congress held on Saturday.

“We condemned in strong terms, the unwarranted attitude of Security Agents at the Government House for threatening lives of harmless Journalists who are out to do their primary duties,” they said

The Chapel therefore called on Heads of Security Agencies in the State to sensitize their personnel on Media/Security relationship.
