The Kogi State Programme Officer of the Actionaid Nigeria, Mr. Friday Ugeze, has said that plans are underway to commence training of 300 youths/women on skills acquisition in Kogi -Kotonkarfe Local Government of Kogi State.
Ugeze, stated this when he led staff members of the Actionaid Nigeria on a courtesy call to the chairman of Kogi – Koton-Karfe Local Government Council, Alhaji Isah Abdulkarim, in his office on Thursday.
He said Actionaid Nigeria has over the years been implementing youth programmes to tackle youth reactiveness in the society adding that the group has decided to go into partnership with Kogi Local Government to train youth and women on skills acquisition.
According to him, women and youths would be selected across various rural communities of the local government, which he said they trained on various kinds of hands/skills training.
“So basically, we are going to train them on various skills of their area of specialisation so that at the end, we can register them with the ministry of commerce as a co-operative group so that Actionaid can access funding and other donors to see how their livelihood can be improved,” he said.
The Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Isah Abdulkarim, thanked Actionaid Nigeria for the visit and for going into partnership with his administration.
He assured them of his administration’s support to ensure the proposed skills acquisition training was successful.
