2023: INEC inaugurates c’ttee to develop election project plan

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Monday, inaugurated a 17-man committee to review its operational plan for the next five years.

The committee, headed by INEC National commissioner and Chairman, Planning, Monitoring and Strategy Committee, Ahmed Muazu, has 40 days to submit its report.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the review would form the basis for the full formulation of the election project plan for the 2023 elections.

He said the review would also help the commission to identify all events, programmes and actions needed to be implemented before the elections.

He recalled that the commission’s first strategic plan, within which general elections were anchored, was developed to serve as a compass for its activities between 2012 and 2016.

He said the strategic plan was reviewed to cover 2017-2021 and would also be reviewed to cover 2022-2026.

“The commission believes that we can’t approach election management on an ad hoc basis.

“But rather, we must deliberately plan for elections. It’ll also help us to track the off season, governorship elections taking place between this year, 2021 and 2023 to ensure these elections are also properly implemented,” he said.
