Confirming the arrest on Monday, the police spokesman in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah said the suspect had already been arraigned in court. Isah added that the suspect was remanded under the custody of Nigerian Correctional Centre.

“Yes, he was arraigned and the charges include conspiracy, aiding and abating bandits, armed robbery, kidnapping and terrorism,” he said.

Security forces in northwestern Nigeria continue to crack down on bandits, who have ravaged Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Niger states.

The Katsina state government maintained that its efforts at taming banditry in the state were suffering a major setback due to activities of informants and supporters of the bandits living within the communities.
