COVID-19: Japan, UNDP, SDGs empower 2,320 people in Kano

The Office of the Special Adviser (SA) to the Kano State Government on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in collaboration with Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN) has flagged-off the implementation of a Cash for Work Programme for 2,320 people.

The program with support from UNDP and the government of Japan is to help cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and vulnerable persons.

The intervention, which was launched on Saturday at Zoo Road in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State “is to strengthen resilience, livelihood opportunities and employment for targeted vulnerable beneficiaries through cash for work activities related to health, hygiene promotion and infection control such as cleaning”.

The SA to the state governor on SDGs, Habib Hotoro, who urged the beneficiaries to work hard and ensure that they utilise the opportunity for their progress and the state added that they are partnering with REMASAB to ensure that they are participating.

The Technical Director of the CCDRN, Abba Isyaku Adamu, said the intervention targeted men and women from six metropolitan local governments in Kano excluding Tarauni and Nassarawa.
