The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said its officials in Maiduguri have undergone lessons on basic life support and how to examine a casualty.
The exercise held between January 25 and 28, was meant to provide the requisite training to personnel on first aid to ensure competency while attending to victims of disaster.
The Director General, NEMA, Air Vice Marshal Muhammadu Mohammed (rtd ) stated this during the opening ceremony of the training on Basic First Aid on Emergency Response, organised in collaboration with Nigerian Red Cross Society, Borno State, Chapter.
The DG, represented by the Assistant Director, Human Resource (Training), Usman Aji, said the lesson was geared towards building the capacity of staff in responding to disasters and emergencies.
In his remarks, Acting Zonal Coordinator, NEMA North East Zone, Chonoko Isah Ishaya said improving staff competency and operational readiness remained the cardinal objectives of the agency and urged the staff to take the training seriously as responses involved situations where staff must determine whether the situation is safe and at the same time identifying and treating the problems of casualties.
A Representative of the Secretry, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Babagana Usman said the training was targeted at updating the staff with skills and techniques of life-saving during emergencies.
