Nasarawa State Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Police Brutality has concluded hearing over a case against ASP Alpha Mahamu for alleged torture that led to the death of a young woman in Karu, Nasarawa State.
Justice Badamasi Maina (rtd) is chairman of the commission sitting in Lafia in the case between the family of Mallam Isah Vs ASP Alpha Mahamu with suit NO: NSD/JCL/LF/MO39/20.

Barrister Muhammad Isa Danliti representing the family of the late lady, Bilkisu Ummi Isa said, “We have adopted our final written addresses, which is a summary of facts and evidence called before the commission.”
He said the case is closed and the commission shall make its findings and recommendation to Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Barrister Danliti said, “If ASP Alpha Mahamu was found guilty, they will recommend for his sack, prosecution and for compensation.”
The counsel to the accused SARS operative, Barrister Allu Danjuma Asaku did not appear, but he informed the Secretary of the commission about his absence and equally applied that his written address be adopted in his absence.
It could be recalled that a policeman officer, Alpha Mahamu, allegedly tortured a 20-year-old lady to death in Calvary Road by Bola Police Outpost in Mararaba, Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State.
The woman, Bilkisu Ummi Isa, was alleged to have been tortured for a whole day and was granted bail when she started vomiting blood on Sunday.
Her brother, Zakariya Isa, said, her former boyfriend Abdul, was alleged to have stolen N1 million naira in a car dealership centre where he was working and absconded.
The dealer who is said to be a Lebanese called Jafar, reported the matter to the police, the friend of the runaway Abdul mentioned her name when he too was tortured.
He said that the police arrested, beat and hit her head on the wall, he later called her parents to take her when he realised that she was vomiting blood.
But according to a friend of the deceased, Rukayya Muhammad, “A youth called Jibrin and a vigilante popularly called Master was alleged to have been commissioned to trace the suspect, Abdul, when he could not do so, he brought some vigilante to invite me as a friend of the deceased and the deceased to Calvary Road Police Station.
“The Inspector slapped, flogged and hit Bilkisu, but he gave me his number that he liked me and spared me from torture.”
