Zamfara’s first state-owned FM station hits airwaves

The first state-owned FM station in Zamfara State, on Thursday, hit the airwaves during a test transmission with many residents elated about the development, Daily Trust learnt.

The FM station, transmitting on 105.5 frequency, would continue its test transmission pending the time Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle would officially commission the project.

The executive chairman of the state radio and television services, Alhaji Saidu Maishanu Gusau, told Daily Trust that the FM station would focus on issues that have to do with the security of lives and property in the state.

“The radio station will play a critical role in creating awareness among our people, especially the rural dwellers on the need to embrace peace and shun activities inimical to the growth of the state.

“Our daily test transmission now starts from 9 am to 12 pm and then from 4 pm to 6 pm and programmes and policies of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle’s administration would be broadcast to the people.

Alhaji Gusau said the state government had also approved the procurement of 50-kilowatt transmitter for the state radio AM station.

He said the FM station project had gulped the sum of N170 million.

In his assertion also, the representative of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Engr Nwabuke, who came from Abuja to inspect the facilities at the radio station, expressed satisfaction with the project.

He said the station would serve as a unifying tool among the people of the state and enlighten the general public on the need to embrace peace for the state to develop.
