Quit notice: Ooni of Ife cautions Sunday Igboho

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has cautioned the popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on his moves to sack Fulani herders from the south-western part of Nigeria.

The Palace spokesman, Moses Olafare, on Thursday told Daily Trust that Oba Ogunwusi appealed to Igboho to be careful so that other people with ulterior motive would not hijack his ‘genuine’ intent to cause disunity in the country.

The Ooni lauded Igboho for ‘defending’ helpless people and advised him to exercise caution by allowing security agencies to carry out their duties in dealing with criminals marauding as herdsmen in the South West.

He advised the latter not to take the law into his hands but allow constituted authorities to handle the security challenge.

Mr Olafare quoted the Ooni as saying “Let us be very objective. He (Igboho) is being a mouthpiece for the downtrodden.

“He came up and everybody is listening now but my advice to him as a traditional ruler is that he needs to be very careful so that the politicians won’t hijack the whole motive from him.

“He has done well and we’ve already praised him but he shouldn’t take laws into his hands. We have the governor there, he is the chief security officer of the state and Mr President has invited him (Makinde).

“Let the right people that are being authorised to do what is right do it.

“He (Igboho) has done well and the world has heard him but everything should be done in moderation.”

He added: “We know that the bandits are everywhere. He shouldn’t take laws into his hands. We have laws in this country and we should follow it. Let the right people chosen for this task do and follow what they are supposed to do.”

Igbo had led some Yoruba youths to sack and raze a Fulani settlement in Oyo State, and threatened to do the same in other states of the South West.
