Corruption and distortion of constituency projects start from political actors who create an opaque system that keeps citizens in the dark about what they intend to do, the executive director, Resource Center for Human rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), Dr. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, said
Speaking at a media briefing on the imperatives of citizen-led accountability demands on the use of funds for constituency projects, Zikirullahi said people in communities must rise up to demand and ensure they get what was meant for them.
“Before citizens realise what was going on, shoddy and substandard projects which do not reflect the need of the communities are foisted on them. Prevention of corruption must begin with needs assessments,” he said.
