‘Free market best for sustainable economy’

An economic summit group is advocating a free market system, saying it is the best for building a strong and sustainable economy.

The group, led by Ms Mmanti Umoh, said on Monday while announcing its inaugural business leadership summit in Uyo, that the meeting would tackle the uncertainties and negative impact of COVID-19 on businesses and the economy.

Umoh said the event tagged: “Leading in the Midst of Uncertainty”, would hold on Friday, stating that Akwa Ibom citizens deserved an economy where each person could succeed through hard work and creativity, adding that the summit would open up an economic opportunity for all.

She also sued for equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that were more resilient in the face of pandemics and many other local changes that might come up.

“With this in view, there is an urgent need for local stakeholders to cooperate in simultaneously managing the direct consequences of the COVID-19 crisis.”
