Arrested herders to be sent out of Kaduna communities – Council chair

The chairman of Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mr Charles Danladi, has said some herders who infiltrated some communities in the area and were arrested would be sent away.

Speaking to Daily Trust on Sunday, Mr Danladi said the presence of Fulani herders was already generating tension and panic among indigenes of the area because nobody knows their mission.

He said the herders, who included women, men, children and their animals, trooped into the community from Nasarawa and Niger states. He said they were arrested on Friday while trying to settle at Aban and Dogon Daji villages.

He also said plans had been concluded to escort them out of the local government area to allay the people’s fear.

He said the Fulani herders claimed they were running away from their states due to ongoing crises to join some of their siblings in Sanga.

He, however, explained that considering the current high and complex level of insecurity in the country, it was necessary that authorities of the council exercised caution.

Danladi added that he had informed relevant authorities at the state level and was advised that the herders be escorted out of the area.

The chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Southern Kaduna chapter, Alhaji Abdulhamid Musa Albarka, said they were not informed about the movement of herders from other states.

“We were not informed that we would receive a group of Fulani from any state, so I don’t know about their arrival as I am talking to you now. But we are going to contact our leaders on it,” he said.
