55-yr-old man beats relative to death in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 55-year-old man, Ishau Falana, for allegedly beating his relative, identified as Badmus Rafiu, to death.

The suspect was reported to have tied the deceased’s hands and legs, beaten him to a coma, and abandoned him in a bush at Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in Abeokuta, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Ayetoro divisional headquarters by a younger brother to the deceased.

He explained that  the deceased’s brother reported that the deceased went to their farm at Oluwasogo area of Ijaka-Isale only to be accosted by the suspect who challenged him for burning the bush very close to his farm.

According to Oyeyemi,  the victim’s brother explained that  fight ensued between them  as a result of the argument, consequent upon which the suspect overpowered the deceased, tied his hands and legs with a rope, and used a stick to beat him to a state of coma before leaving him there.

He said, “The following day when the deceased’s mother got to the farm, she met him already dead.

“Upon the report, the DPO of Ayetoro division, CSP Bolaji Jimoh, detailed his detectives to the scene from where the corpse was recovered to the general hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

“The suspect was then traced and apprehended. On interrogation, he confessed tying the deceased’s legs and hands and beating him to a coma, but claimed that he didn’t know that it would lead to his death.”
