‘Gbemi Saraki has no plan, reason to dump APC’

Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki has no plan to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC), it has been revealed.

Daily Trust reports that there has been a trending report online that the Senator, a chieftain of the APC in Kwara State, was planning to dump the APC.

This is coming amidst the lingering crisis in the state chapter of the party which was recently exacerbated by the sack of the Chairman, Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa and the appointment of Abdullahi Samari as the acting Chairman.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammmed, Saraki and many chieftains of the party have opposed the sack of Bolarinwa which was affirmed by the National Caretaker Committee of the party.

Presently, the North Central Zonal Caucus of the party led by Governor Sani Bello of Niger State has been mandated to continue with the reconciliation process.

While the crisis still subsists, the report about Saraki’s planned dumping of the APC surfaced with some members of the party sharing it on their various platforms.

But sources close to the Minister debunked it, describing it as an idle talk by her “jobless detractors.”

“Gbemi Saraki remains a committed member of the APC and has no plan to leave the party as being insinuated. She has no reason to dump the party. This is the handiwork of her detractors,” said a highly placed source close to the Minister.

Daily Trust learnt that the speculation emerged following the announcement by her long-standing aide, Ms. Titilope Anifowoshe that she’s leaving the party.

Since then, the social media have been awash with reports that Senator Gbemi Saraki, a younger sister of former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, is set to dump the party.

But one of her aides who spoke with Daily Trust on condition of anonymity said, “Does it make any sense that she is going to dump APC? This is just because one former staff said she is no longer a party member. This is the handiwork of the jobless detractors of the Minister.

“The Minister remains committed to the APC ideals and the administration of President Buhari who she is currently serving to the best of her ability and working relentlessly to transform the transportation sector.

The Minister has chosen not to respond to the idle talks because she feels she is too big to respond to the rubbish in order not to give those behind it any relevance whatsoever,” he said.
